I grew up in the same house, on the same street, in the same city for 17 years. My life was comfortable and familiar. But I knew that would change when I had to make the decision on where to go next. It was important to me to make a decision that I wouldn’t regret. One not based on fear, but rather possibility. I chose to move 2,129 miles away to Bozeman, Montana. I knew nobody West of the Mississippi river, and had never felt so alone. No more songs of cicadas and tree frogs. No more humidity or lightning. More snow than all of North Carolina’s winters combined. I never thought I would feel content in a place so vastly different from my home. But what ultimately proved me wrong was the people, good people. Over these last four years I have made incredible friends from all over the world, friends with different stories and interests. Every one of them has made Montana feel like a second home. As a love letter to the last four years spent with them, this series creates a surreal interpretation of my friends and allows me to cope with leaving home. Again.
